Week 10 Dart Action

First off, let’s talk about the league fundraiser we had in November.  Those who participated sold $1,600 worth of coupon books, which netted the league $800!  That’s fantastic guys, way to support the league in our goal to have enough funds to put on a banquet and engrave some trophies at the end of the season.  If anyone has any other fundraising ideas, let an executive know.

Our next funds generating adventure is the ANNUAL TURKEY SHOOT on Dec. 21st. Come out and support the league and maybe win a turkey!

Playing at their joint home venue, the Parksville Legion Respect-A-Bulls hosted the PV Legion Dart Legends to a fun night of darts.  Unfortunately for the home team, one of their players did not turn up and the Respect-A-Bulls were forced to forfeit six points to their opponents right off the hop.  Despite the missing player, the home team took the lead early in the match and didn’t let go until the final dart was thrown.  Leading the wins for the Respect-A-Bulls was a tie for five wins for both Joe Fortune and Tom Ayley.  Joe also had the two highest scores for the team – 140 & 162 – in his winning match against Dart Legend Ken Ermantrout.  In spite of the six-point advantage, the Dart Legends couldn’t capitalize on it, with three of the six players getting a goose egg at the end of the night.  Captain Jolene Swanson and Donna Ermantrout had the stars align for them, both winning three of their four singles matches.  Rod Swindells had topped the high scores with a 104, 117 and a 120.

Gathering at the Eagles Hall, the Eagles Hall Double Eagles welcomed the Bristle Bashers to a fast-paced night of darts.  The Bashers got a nine-point lead on the home team before Captain Toni Crompton doubled out against Don Enockson.  The home team rallied for a set before being overrun by Bashers in the last three sets.  Leading the wins for the Double Eagles, Pat Bannister and Alan Barry pulled two wins each away from their opponents.  Alan also had the team high score of 131 and Sue Barry leapt to the top of the Women’s High Out list on the Leader Board with a show-stopping 89 out in her match against Basher Darrell Jobb.   Leading the wins for the Bashers, top male player in the league, Ken Hayes, was undefeated in his six matches.  Basher Steve Collins topped the scores with a 171, shot in his very first match of the night.

Also playing at the Eagles Hall, the Eagles Hall X-Men hosted the Eagles Hall Eagle Eyes to a closely scored match.  The Eagle Eyes took the lead early, winning two of the three doubles and the first set of singles.  The X-Men rallied and pushed past the Eagle Eyes in the next three sets, keeping the pressure on their opponents until the final set.  Leading the wins for the X-Men, Captain Todd Burnham, Rob Sparrow and Jim Thompson shared the spotlight, each winning four of their five singles.  Todd and team mate Pony Moore both shot a 140, Jim had the most high scores with 100x, 115 and 125.  Leading the wins for the Eagle Eyes, Heath Mahoney lost only to Rob Sparrow in his five turns at the oche.  Team high score – 133 – was shot by John Coulter in his first singles match of the night.

Meeting at the Qualicum Legion, the Morningstar Triples and the Eagles Hall Straight Arrows played a nail-biting match of darts.  The home team started off well enough, taking two of the three doubles and more singles in the first set.  The match was evenly scored by the final game, a battle between the team captains, Leslie Rodgers and Sonja Twamley.  Leslie doubled out before Sonja and pinned the winning double for the team.  Leading the wins for the Triples, Brody Jenkinson bested four of his five singles opponents and hit the team high score of 137.  Straight Arrow Mike Beno lost only to Dynamite Denise Tabler in his six trips to the toe-line and hit team high score of 133 not once, but twice!

Final score Morningstar Triples 17 – Eagles Hall Straight Arrows 16

Filling up the rest of the boards at the QB Legion, the Short Sighted Crew met with the QB Legion Shooters for thirty-three games of darts.  With two spares, the five Crew members gave it their best shot but were no match for the finely-oiled machine that is the Shooters.  Captain Don Punter and Peter Bisiker managed to pull two wins each away from their opponents.  Spare Jeff Rhode topped the scores for the Crew with a 136, as well as 100x3 and 120.  Leading the wins for the Shooters was a three-way tie between Lee Page, Thom Ford and Larry MacDonald, all undefeated in their five matches.  Lee bumped team mate Thom Ford from the top of the Leader Board, with a Men’s High Score of 177.
