Seven B-Sharps weren’t enough to win the battle against the Qualicum Beach Warriors at the Qualicum Legion Tuesday night. The Warriors battled valiantly without their captain, Ruth Kovacs – who was on the casualty list this week – to a decisive victory of 25 to 8 over the B-Sharps. Leading the charge was Warrior Larry MacDonald, who won all his matches of the night with scores of 140, 134, 125 and 100x3. Flanking Larry’s lead, Fish Trouton came away with five wins and scores of 132, 125 and 100. Kelly Kovacs and Dale Simpson supported the nights’ wins with four of six matches each to their credit. Leading the wins for the Sharps were Anna Daschuk and Stan Foster – each winning 3 of 5 games. High score went to Arless McNeill, who shot a 125.

Taking over the Eagles Hall, the Allwood Finishers hosted the Toolshed Triples to a fun night of darts, coming away with 21 wins over the Toolsheds’ 12 wins. Larry Fuller showed everyone how to double out five times in five matches. High score went to Harry Van Heerwaarden with a 140, and 100x2. Gerry James shot a 128 and 122. Top score for the Triples went to Jim Hood, winning 3 of 5 matches and high score – 140 – went to Mike McNulty.

Filling up the rest of the boards at the Qualicum Legion Tuesday night, the Short Sighted Crew and the Eagles Straight Arrows met, played, and came away with the Straight Arrows victorious 24 times to the Crew’s 9. Leading the wins for the Straight Arrows was Paul Reimer, with six for six and a high score of 112. Don McIlhargey doubled out five of his matches, scoring a 134 along the way. The highlight of the night was a perfect score of 180 – shot by Ron Keast – who also won four matches. Congrats Ron!

Parksville Legion was a beehive of activity with four teams meeting and competing for the doubles. The Legion Shooters, home team to the Legion Bulls Hitters, took 20 wins from the Hitters. Leading the wins for the Shooters was George Wallis, with five of six games in his favour. Thom Ford was the prolific high scorer for the Shooters, hitting a 122 and 121. Six Bulls Hitters hit some high scores, notably Barb Marsh’s 140, Alan’s 107 and Bernie’s 115, but the double eluded them for most of the evening. Top score went to Bernie Brockway and Alan Farmer – each taking three of their five matches.

Seven players strong, the Bristle Bashers met the X-Men for an epic battle of darts at the Parksville Legion. Finishing successfully, Terry Strawson and Captain Mike Driscoll both won all four of their matches, with Mike D. shooting a 156 to put him on the Leaderboard for the first time this season. Noella Ross was the high scorer for the Bristle Bashers with a whopping 171 for a second time this season – way to go Noella! High score for the X-Men went to Dale Parker – 121 - as well as a pair of wins. Glen Dilworth and Rob Sparrow also took a couple wins each away from the Bristle Bashers.

Legion teams from separate towns met at the Qualicum Legion to play thirty-three games of darts and the Parksville Legion Shooters came out ahead with twenty-eight games to their credit. Top wins for the Shooters were Lorraine Hopps and Thom Ford with a perfect night for both of them, along with high scores of 134 each too – congrats!! B-Sharps Arless McNeill led the wins for the B-Sharps, as well as getting the high scores of 140, 132, 125 and 120.

Also at the Qualicum Legion on Tuesday were the other two QB Legion teams – the Warriors and Short Sighted Crew. Coming out strong in the doubles, the Warriors dominated throughout the entire night winning 23 matches against the Crew. Winning all five of their matches, Larry MacDonald and Kelly Kovacs, led the wins. High scorer for the Warriors was Fish Trouton, with four wins in five games and scores of 125, 121, 108 and 100x3. Short Sighted Sylvia Mantyka and Don Punter each won half their matches and high score went to Ron Stanley with 140.

Cascadia Bristle Bashers out doubled the Qualicum Legion Bulls Hitters at the Parksville Legion twenty-eight times. Top wins for the Bashers went to Richard Rempel and Tedd Ducker – neither one missing a double out. Noella Ross, Don Enocksen and Mike Driscoll ensured the team’s win by finishing four of their five games successfully. High scorer for the Bashers was Noella Ross with a 123. Having a total off night, the Bulls Hitters only managed five wins and Bernie Brockway and Ray Jones lead with two wins each. High score for the Hitters went to Barb Marsh, who hit a 138.

The X-Men met with the Allwood Finishers for a second time this season. Great matches from both teams lead to an 18-15 win for the Finishers. Leading the wins for the Finishers were Larry Fuller and Harry Vanheerwarden with four of five matches won, followed by three wins from Captain Jolene Swanson. High score of the night was 140 – achieved by Larry Fuller and Gerry James. X-Men’s Glen Dilworth led the wins for his team with four of six matches in his favour, and high scores of 100 x 4. Top score went to spare Gord with two scores of 131.

The Toolshed Triples and the Eagles Straight Arrows had to postpone due to illness and vacations.

After a four week Christmas break the District 69 Dart League’s ten teams were eager to get back to regular season play on January 15, 2019.

The Qualicum Legion’s Short Sighted Crew and B-Sharps met for a closely played match, with the B-Sharps edging out the Crew by one point – final score 17-16. Leading the B-Sharps’ wins with five of six matches in his favour – Arless McNeill - also scored a 100 and had a high out of 55. Top scorer for the B-Sharps was Stan Foster with a 138. Captain Don Punter and Anne O’Sullivan led the wins for the Short Sighted Crew with four each. Top score for the Crew went to Steve Bird with a 130.

The Toolshed Triples hosted the Qualicum Legion Warriors at the Eagles Hall, fun was had by all, and the Warriors out doubled the Triples 21 to 10. Top wins for the Warriors went to Larry MacDonald, who didn’t miss a double all night, and he hit high scores of 100 and 140. Team mates Kelly Kovacs and Fish Trouton each won four of their five matches. Wins were pretty evenly spread two apiece for the Triples, high score went to Jim Hood with a 131, Mike McNulty shot a 123 and Alan Barry hit the triple digits with a 105.

While Captain Jolene Swanson recuperated at home, the Allwood Finishers met with the Bulls Hitters at the Parksville Legion and both teams were neck and neck until the end of the fifth set when the Finishers pulled ahead - winning 18 to 15. Four wins each went to Gerry James, Anita Hopps, Harry Vanheerwaarden and Larry Fuller. Top score went to Harry with a 140, followed by Gerry’s 133 and 132. Top wins for the Bulls Hitters went to Ray Jones with four of five games in his favour and right behind him with three wins is league newcomer, Barb Marsh. Top score for the Hitters went to Bernie Brockway with a 133, 117 and 101.

It was a busy night at the Parksville Legion, with the Cascadia Bristle Bashers hosting the Legion’s Shooters. Starting strong, the Bristle Bashers had a commanding lead over the Shooters. Snatching wins in four of the five matches in the fifth and sixth sets, the Shooters almost caught up to the Bashers, only falling short by 3 wins. Final score - 18 to 15 for the Bashers. Top wins for the Bashers went to Steve Collins and Richard Rempel – who also, along with Captain Mike Driscoll, scored a 140 as team high score.

The Eagle’s Hall home team – Straight Arrows – hosted the X-Men and doubled their doubles, finishing 22 to 11 over the Men. Top wins for the Arrows went to both Don McIlhargey and Sonja Twamley – with five of six matches each. High score for the Arrows went to Ron Keast with a 140. The X-Men all scored high scores, but top score and wins went to Glen Dilworth, who shot 140 x 2 and five 100’s and came away with three wins in six matches.
